Founders

Marjorie Lightman and William Zeisel have known each other since their graduate student days at Rutgers University. After completing their doctorates they became associated with the Institute for Research in History, in New York City, and in 1988 founded QED Associates as a consulting firm dedicated to the needs of nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Since then they have worked with colleges and universities, museums, research institutes, and international NGOS from California to Calcutta.

Dr. Lightman has a special interest in women and minorities. Out of her experience as an editor of the Northern African volume of Women Writing Africa (New York: Feminist Press, 2010), she wrote her latest article, A Skeptical Cast of Mind to appear in Women and Power in the Mediterranean (London: Routledge, forthcoming). Dr. Zeisel has focused on complex editorial projects, often multinational in nature. His most recent consulting position was as managing editor of Hidden Treasure: The National Library of Medicine (Washington, DC: National Library of Medicine, 2012), which celebrates the 175th anniversary of the world's largest medical library.

Dr. Zeisel and Dr. Lightman often work in collaboration, across the range of problems, issues, and crises that face universities and not-for-profit organizations in the United States and abroad. Their most recent collaboration was to write 160 Years of Scholarship and Achievement in the Nation's Capital (Washington, DC: University of the District of Columbia Press, 2011), celebrating the 160th anniversary of the District of Columbia's sole public institution of higher education.

Dr. Lightman and Dr. Zeisel have raised millions of dollars over the years for their clients, who have included the largest women's labor union in India and a cutting-edge library organization in New York City, as well as advocacy groups and human rights organizations. They look forward to solving new problems as times change.
